The trek is rated moderate-difficult. The total elevation gain from McLeod Ganj (1,457m) to the pass (4,342m) is nearly 3,000m over 3 days. Fitness preparation with regular cardio is recommended. No technical climbing required.
On a clear May day, the pass offers one of the finest views in the western Himalayas — Kangra Valley bathed in green 2,900m below, the snow-clad Pir Panjal range to the north, and the Chamba Valley on the descent side.
