Triund Trek
The Dhauladhar snow wall from your tent — the most rewarding easy trek in Himachal
About This Tour
The Triund Trek is Himachal Pradesh's most beloved introductory trek — a 7.5 km trail from the colourful streets of McLeod Ganj (home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile) to a sublime ridgeline at 2,875 metres with an unobstructed view of the Dhauladhar range's sheer snow wall. It is easy enough for first-time trekkers and families, yet the summit panorama — with the Kangra valley stretching into the haze far below and the Dhauladhars rising dramatically behind — is as good as anything on a much harder trail.
The trail climbs through dense oak and rhododendron forest from Dharamkot, opening progressively to reveal the Dhauladhar ridgeline. The final 2 km are open hillside with spectacular views in all directions. At the summit, a Forest Department rest house and small dhaba provide hot tea and maggi noodles — a welcome arrival ritual. Camp on the flat ridge, watch the sunset paint the Kangra valley, and wake to a misty Himalayan morning before descending in time for breakfast in McLeod Ganj.
Junegiri Yatra packages include trekking guide, tent, sleeping bag, and all meals on the mountain. The trek is graded Easy and suitable for children from age 10 upwards. Best season: March–June and September–November.

What Travelers Say
Complete Guide to the Triund Trek from McLeod Ganj
The Triund Trek begins from Dharamkot, a short auto-rickshaw ride above McLeod Ganj, and climbs through the Kangra district's finest oak and rhododendron forest to a ridgeline that offers one of the most dramatic face-on views of any snow range in India. The Dhauladhar range — rising sharply to over 5,000 metres — towers directly behind the Triund campsite in a sheer wall of rock and ice.
How to Reach McLeod Ganj
McLeod Ganj is connected by overnight Volvo buses from Delhi (approximately 12 hours), by bus from Chandigarh (5–6 hours), and by flights to Gaggal Airport (also called Kangra Airport), 25 km away. The nearest major rail station is Pathankot (90 km), with a narrow-gauge toy train connection to Kangra. Junegiri Yatra can help arrange transport from anywhere in India.
What Makes Triund Special
The short duration (1 night, 2 days) makes Triund accessible to working professionals who cannot take a long leave. The proximity to McLeod Ganj means you can combine the trek with a rich cultural experience — visiting the Dalai Lama's temple, exploring Tibetan crafts, eating excellent momos, and attending a prayer session at Tsuglagkhang. Very few treks in India combine Himalayan wilderness and living cultural heritage so conveniently.
