Valley of Flowers National Park (3,658 m), a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Chamoli district, is accessible only from July to September when the monsoon transforms the valley into a riot of 300+ Himalayan wildflowers including Brahmakamal, Blue Poppy, and Cobra Lily. This is one trek where you actually want to visit during monsoon.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely — the monsoon IS the season. The flowers bloom precisely because of the rain. Carry a good rain jacket and waterproof trekking shoes. The rain typically comes in afternoon showers; mornings are often clear. This is one of the few Uttarakhand destinations where monsoon enhances, not hinders, the experience.
The route is: Rishikesh/Haridwar → Joshimath → Govindghat → Ghangaria (14 km trek or helicopter) → Valley of Flowers (4 km from Ghangaria). Hemkund Sahib is also accessible from Ghangaria and combines well with Valley of Flowers.
No. Overnight stay inside the valley is strictly prohibited. All accommodation is at Ghangaria — the base village with guesthouses and Forest Department lodges. Book accommodation in Ghangaria well in advance for August visits.
