About This Tour

Junegiri Yatra's 9 Nights / 10 Days Char Dham Yatra package at β‚Ή19,800 per person covers all four sacred shrines of Uttarakhand β€” Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath β€” in a well-paced itinerary designed to give you adequate rest and meaningful darshan at each site. We are a Haridwar-based operator, which means the circuit starts and ends in Haridwar and we manage every leg of the journey ourselves without sub-contracting your transfer or accommodation to third parties.

The route follows the traditional sequence: Haridwar β†’ Barkot (Yamunotri) β†’ Uttarkashi (Gangotri) β†’ Guptkashi/Sonprayag (Kedarnath) β†’ Badrinath β†’ Haridwar. Each night halt is chosen for comfort relative to the terrain β€” you stay at mid-altitude towns where accommodation is better than at the shrine-level camps, though we also offer shrine-level stays at Kedarnath and Badrinath for those who want to attend the early morning aarti.

The package includes accommodation (double sharing), all transfers by dedicated vehicle, driver, and a local guide who accompanies the group through all four dhams. Meals are not included so pilgrims can eat according to their own preferences and timing, but we provide a curated list of reliable dhabas and guesthouses at each stop. Helicopter at Kedarnath, VVIP darshan tickets, and Char Dham registration assistance are available as add-ons.

This is a group departure package with fixed departure dates from Haridwar every Saturday from late April through October. Private customised char dham yatra packages are also available for families or groups of 6 or more β€” call us at +91 98738 97652 to discuss. Whether you are planning char dham yatra from Delhi or travelling from further south, we handle the full coordination from Haridwar onward. All package guests receive a detailed pre-departure briefing covering registration, packing, route conditions, and what to expect at each dham β€” so there are no surprises on the road.

Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar: Complete Travel Guide

The Char Dham Yatra covers the four sacred shrines of Uttarakhand β€” Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath β€” and is considered one of the most significant Hindu pilgrimages in India. Starting from Haridwar puts you at the natural gateway to all four dhams. Our 9 Nights / 10 Days Char Dham Yatra package at β‚Ή19,800 per person is designed around how the route actually works on the ground, not just on paper.

Best Time for Char Dham Yatra

The shrines open in late April or early May and close by November. Within that window, two distinct seasons work well for pilgrims.

April to June

This is peak season. Kedarnath temple typically opens on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya in late April β€” the exact date is announced by the Kedarnath temple committee after consulting the Jyotish panchang. Badrinath opens a few days later, usually in the first or second week of May. If you plan to travel in April, book at least 6–8 weeks in advance because accommodation at Sonprayag, Kedarnath, and Badrinath fills up fast. May is ideal for most pilgrims β€” snow on the higher passes has melted, the roads are clear, and the weather holds between 10Β°C and 20Β°C during the day at mid-altitude stops.

September to October

After the monsoon clears β€” usually by mid-September β€” the skies open up and visibility is sharp. Crowds are thinner than in summer, prices drop slightly, and the landscape along the route turns vivid green before autumn sets in. Badrinath closes in November, Kedarnath closes around Diwali. If you are travelling from cities like Mumbai or Bangalore and want to combine sightseeing with the yatra, September is a good compromise.

Months to Avoid

July and August bring heavy monsoon rainfall to Uttarakhand. Landslides on NH-58 (Rishikesh to Badrinath) and NH-94 (Rishikesh to Yamunotri via Barkot) are frequent and can delay travel by 12–36 hours. The route is open but unreliable. Unless you have a very flexible itinerary, avoid these months.

How to Reach Haridwar

Haridwar is the practical starting point for the Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar. It connects well to most Indian cities by rail. The Haridwar Junction is on the main broad-gauge line and has direct trains from Delhi (4–5 hrs), Mumbai (around 24 hrs), Kolkata (around 30 hrs), and several intermediate cities. If you are coming from the south, fly into Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport (35 km from Haridwar) and take a taxi. Pilgrims coming from Chennai or from Hyderabad typically fly to Delhi or Dehradun. We can arrange pickup from Jolly Grant Airport, Haridwar station, or Rishikesh.

Char Dham Registration

The Uttarakhand government requires mandatory biometric registration for Char Dham pilgrims. You must register online at the official portal (devasthanam.uk.gov.in or the tourism board portal) before departure. Walk-in registration counters are available at Rishikesh, Haridwar, and at the entry points to each shrine, but they can have long queues in peak season. Carry a printout or a digital copy of your registration. Your Aadhaar card or any government-issued ID is mandatory. Our team assists all guests with the registration process as part of the package.

What to Pack

The altitude and climate vary significantly across the four dhams. Pack in layers. A lightweight down jacket or fleece works well at Kedarnath (3,584m) and Badrinath (3,133m). Good ankle-support trekking shoes are non-negotiable for Kedarnath β€” the 16 km trek from Gaurikund has loose rocks and uneven steps. At Yamunotri, the last 6 km from Janki Chatti is also a trek. Sunscreen SPF 50+, UV-blocking sunglasses, a refillable water bottle, and personal medications are all essential. Carry some cash β€” ATMs are unreliable above Rishikesh, and UPI connectivity is patchy.

Temple Darshan Tips

VVIP darshan tickets are available at Kedarnath and Badrinath for a separate fee and reduce waiting time significantly during peak months. Standard darshan queues in May can run 3–5 hours at Kedarnath. Arrive before 6 am for a shorter queue. The sanctum is small, so darshan itself lasts only 1–2 minutes; the walk around the temple and the exterior puja can be done at your own pace. Photography is restricted inside the main temples. At Badrinath, the tapt kund (natural hot spring) at the base of the temple is used for ritual bathing before entering β€” the water is around 45Β°C. Do not skip this if your health allows it.

Helicopter vs Trek at Kedarnath

Helicopter services operate from Phata, Sirsi, Guptkashi, and Agustmuni to Kedarnath helipad. A return helicopter ticket costs β‚Ή4,500–₹6,500 per person and saves the 16 km, 6–7 hour trek. For elderly pilgrims or those with cardiac or joint conditions, helicopter or doli (palanquin) is the safer choice. Mules are also available from Gaurikund. If you are physically fit, the trek through the Mandakini valley is worth doing β€” the scenery between Gaurikund and Kedarnath is one of the finest mountain walks in India.

Food on the Route

Simple vegetarian food is available at all stops β€” dal, rice, chapati, sabzi, and khichdi dominate the menus. Prices are higher the further up you go. Maggi and chai are universally available. At Badrinath, the langar (community kitchen) near the temple offers free meals. Do not expect restaurant-quality food; the focus of the yatra is spiritual, and the food is practical fuel. Carry some energy bars, dry fruits, and glucose biscuits for the trek days.

Pilgrims coming from Kolkata or from Pune often ask about combining this with other trips β€” if you have limited time and want to cover just two of the four shrines, look at our Do Dham Yatra 5N/6D package. For those who want only Kedarnath, our Kedarnath Yatra 3N/4D package is a focused, budget-friendly option. For a complete overview of all our char dham options, visit our Char Dham Yatra hub page.

Frequently Asked Questions

May and June are the peak months for Char Dham Yatra, with all four shrines open and roads clear. September and early October are also excellent β€” crowds are thinner and the weather is stable. Avoid July and August due to frequent landslides during the monsoon. The shrines open in late April (Kedarnath around Akshaya Tritiya) and close in October–November.

Yes, the Uttarakhand government requires biometric registration for all Char Dham pilgrims. You can register online at the official devasthanam portal or the Uttarakhand tourism portal before departure. Walk-in registration counters are also available at Rishikesh and Haridwar. Carry your Aadhaar or any government ID. Junegiri Yatra assists all guests with the registration process as part of our package.

The package includes 9 nights accommodation on double sharing basis, dedicated vehicle transfers for the entire route, a local guide accompanying the group, and all toll and permit charges. It does not include meals, helicopter at Kedarnath, VVIP darshan fees, or personal expenses. The package covers Haridwar to Haridwar.

The most physically demanding section is the 16 km trek to Kedarnath from Gaurikund. If you cannot trek, mules, dolis (palanquins), or helicopter service are available at extra cost. Yamunotri also involves a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti. Gangotri and Badrinath are accessible by road. People with heart conditions, severe hypertension, or breathing issues should consult their doctor before attempting Kedarnath at 3,584m altitude.

Yes, with the right arrangements. For Kedarnath, helicopter service or doli (carried palanquin) is available for those who cannot trek. For Yamunotri, dolis and horses are available from Janki Chatti. Gangotri and Badrinath are fully accessible by vehicle. We plan itineraries specifically for senior pilgrims with slower pace, lower altitude overnight halts, and wheelchair-accessible accommodation where possible.

Standard darshan at Kedarnath and Badrinath can involve queues of 2–5 hours in peak months. VVIP darshan tickets (available for a separate fee at the temple counters) reduce waiting time to 30–60 minutes and allow access to a dedicated entry queue. The darshan itself is the same β€” a brief view of the deity inside the sanctum. We can assist in booking VVIP darshan as an add-on to your package.

Haridwar is connected by direct trains from Delhi (4–5 hrs), Mumbai, Kolkata, and most major cities. Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport (35 km). We offer pickup from Haridwar railway station, Rishikesh, and Jolly Grant Airport. Pilgrims from southern India typically fly to Delhi or Dehradun and proceed to Haridwar by road or rail.

Pack warm layers β€” a fleece and a down jacket are essential for Kedarnath and Badrinath. Trekking shoes with ankle support are mandatory for Kedarnath. Sunscreen SPF 50+, UV sunglasses, a walking stick, personal medications, cash (ATMs are unreliable above Rishikesh), and a raincoat or poncho. Keep your main bag under 15 kg to manage vehicle and trek transfers.

Yes. If time or health is a constraint, our Do Dham Yatra (Kedarnath + Badrinath) in 5 Nights / 6 Days is a popular alternative. For just Kedarnath, we have a 3 Nights / 4 Days package. The four shrines do not need to be covered in a single trip β€” many pilgrims complete them over two or more seasons.

Meals are not included in the base package. This is intentional β€” pilgrims have different dietary habits and timings, especially during fasting days. We provide a list of recommended dhabas and restaurants at each stop. Simple vegetarian food (dal, rice, roti, sabzi) is available throughout the route. At Badrinath, the temple langar offers free meals. Carry energy bars and dry fruits for trek days.
