Frequently Asked Questions — May
May is when Rupin's iconic snow bridges are at their most spectacular. The Rupin river cuts through 40–60 foot snow tunnels carved over winter — one of the most dramatic natural formations on any Himalayan trek. By June, these bridges begin to thin; by September they're gone entirely.
Rupin Pass is rated difficult at any time, but May adds snow complexity. Ice axe and crampon use is required on the pass approach. Junegiri Yatra's guides are certified and provide all technical snow gear. Strong fitness and prior trekking experience are essential.
Rupin Pass is at 4,650m (15,256 ft). The trek gains significant altitude over 9 days from Dhaula (1,980m) to the pass, providing natural acclimatisation. The full route runs from Dhaula in Uttarakhand's Tons Valley to Sangla in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district.
