The Ramnagar Ramlila, held across the river from Varanasi in the old Ramnagar Fort complex, is a 31-day retelling of the Ramayana that has been performed continuously for over 200 years. It is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and the world's longest Ram Leela. The Maharaja of Varanasi presides, and the performances use the entire fort and riverbank as a stage. The Dussehra finale with Ravana burning draws hundreds of thousands of spectators. It is an experience of living Indian cultural heritage at its most profound.

Durga Kund temple (dedicated to Durga Devi) has the most intense Navratri celebrations in Varanasi, with special aartis at dawn, noon, and evening.
