Mussoorie town (2,048 m) receives snowfall on average 2–4 times in December, typically in the last two weeks. Snowfall is unpredictable — some Decembers are completely snow-free, others have multiple snow events. Higher points like Lal Tibba (2,275 m) and Dhanaulti (2,286 m) see snow earlier and more frequently. If snowfall is your primary goal, January is more reliable. December is better for Christmas ambience combined with the possibility of snow.

Mussoorie has a genuine Christmas tradition rooted in its colonial and missionary history. The Landour Community Centre church holds candlelit Christmas services. Mall Road is lit with coloured lights from early December. Char Dukan and the Landour Bakehouse serve Christmas specials (plum cake, mulled apple juice). It is one of India's most authentic hill station Christmas experiences — not contrived but genuinely part of the town's cultural identity, particularly in the Landour Cantonment area.

The Dehradun–Mussoorie road (30 km, ~1 hour) is well-maintained and rarely blocked by snowfall — snowplows clear it quickly when snow falls. However, the approach to Mussoorie Mall Road has steep sections that become slippery with ice. If heavy snowfall is forecast, authorities restrict private vehicles at Dehradun.
