Vasant Panchami marks the beginning of spring in the Hindu calendar and launches Braj's 40-day Holi season. From Vasant Panchami onwards, the temples of Vrindavan begin applying gulal (dry colour) to the deity and celebrating spring kirtans. The yellow colour of mustard flowers — which bloom across Braj in February — is central to the celebration. At Banke Bihari temple, the deity is dressed in yellow and the puja takes on a spring character. It is a gentle, beautiful festival that captures the essence of Braj spirituality.

The Govardhan Parikrama is a 21 km circumambulation of Govardhan Hill — the hill that Lord Krishna lifted on his little finger to shelter the Braj residents from Indra's rain. The parikrama is done barefoot by devotees, taking 6–8 hours at a meditative pace. February's cool weather (12–18°C) is ideal for completing the full parikrama comfortably. The route passes Radha Kund and Shyam Kund (sacred ponds where Radha and Krishna are said to have bathed), Kusum Sarovar, and Manasi Ganga lake. February is the Braj experience without the chaos. You visit all the major temples — Banke Bihari, ISKCON, Prem Mandir, Dwarkadheesh — without hour-long queues. Govardhan and Vrindavan parikramas are quiet walks rather than crowded processions. Accommodation is available at short notice. Prices are 25–35% lower than Holi week. The spiritual intensity is the same; the festival spectacle is absent. If you are a devout pilgrim seeking darshan and parikrama, February is the ideal month. If the visual spectacle of Holi is your goal, March is the answer.
