Republic Day Parade (January 26) on Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) from Rashtrapati Bhavan to Red Fort is India's grandest national ceremony. It features military regiments, tableaux from all 28 states, fly-pasts, and the President's address. Tickets are available from November through the Ministry of Defence's aamantran.mod.gov.in portal — apply early as seats are limited. Gates open at 8 AM, parade begins at 10 AM, duration 3 hours. Alternatively, watch the rehearsal (January 23–24) which is also impressive and has no ticket requirement for much of the route.

Dense fog can reduce Taj Mahal visibility on some January mornings — a frustrating possibility for the sunrise visit. The mitigation: check the Agra weather forecast the evening before, book the first 6 AM entry regardless (sometimes fog clears by 7:30–8 AM revealing the marble dramatically), and plan the second golden photo window for late afternoon (3–5 PM) which is usually fog-free. If fog persists, the Taj in diffused mist has its own unique atmospheric beauty that many photographers specifically seek. Don't reschedule — fog is unpredictable and often clears faster than forecast.

The Jaipur International Kite Festival on Makar Sankranti (January 14) fills the sky above the Pink City with thousands of kites from 8 AM until sunset. Kite-flying from rooftops is a city-wide activity, but the festival's organized events are held at the Polo Ground. Kite-fighting ('kite wars' — cutting competitor kite strings with your own abrasive-coated string) is the competitive element. International kite teams from Japan, China, USA, and Europe participate in the display events. Watching from the old city rooftops (book a rooftop café or haveli hotel) is the best vantage point.
