Why Mathura and Vrindavan Attract International Visitors
Mathura β 150 km south of Delhi β is the birthplace of Lord Krishna, one of the most beloved deities in the Hindu pantheon and a figure of global significance through ISKCON (the Hare Krishna movement). Vrindavan, 15 km from Mathura, is where Krishna spent his childhood β every lane here is considered sacred, every temple tells a story from the Bhagavata Purana.
For ISKCON devotees and followers of Vaishnavism worldwide (from Russia to Hawaii to South Africa), Mathura-Vrindavan is a lifetime pilgrimage. For general international tourists, the temples, street life, Holi celebrations, and unique spiritual atmosphere make it one of India's most memorable day-trips or overnight destinations.
