Frequently Asked Questions — September
Early September (1–15) is still viable but demanding. The glacier ices over faster in cold September nights, requiring very early 2:00–3:00 AM summit starts to cross before afternoon warmth softens the snow. By mid-September, our guides make daily go/no-go assessments. After September 20, we consider conditions too risky and close the season.
Three things: the sheer remoteness (you are completely off the grid for 8–9 days in the middle section), the genuine glacier crossing requiring technical skills, and the extraordinary geographical and cultural transition from the lush, temple-dense Parvati Valley to the stark Buddhist Tibetan plateau of Pin Valley. No other trek in Himachal Pradesh offers this combination.
The reverse route (Mudh → Pin Parvati Pass → Kheerganga) is physically harder as the Spiti/Pin Valley side involves a longer, steeper ascent to the pass. September is not recommended for the reverse direction as the Pin Valley side freezes faster. Junegiri Yatra only operates the standard Parvati→Pin direction.
