Ayodhya sits on the Sarayu in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and since the Ram Mandir consecration it has become one of India's busiest pilgrimage destinations. It is a plains city, so the season is governed by heat rather than snow: pleasant from October to March, punishing from May to June, and wet through the monsoon. Junegiri Yatra runs it as a 1 night / 2 day darshan tour year-round, but the comfortable window is narrower than the operating one.

Ideal Months to Visit

January & February & November

January
Among the best months. Cool enough to walk the ghats and temple circuit comfortably. Expect fog-related delays on early trains and flights.
February
Excellent. The most reliable weather of the year — mild days, no fog, and the temple circuit is comfortable at any hour.
November
The best month. Ideal weather, and Dev Deepawali lights the Sarayu ghats with lamps — the most striking time to see the river.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

November, closely followed by January and February. November combines comfortable weather with Dev Deepawali, when the Sarayu ghats are lit with thousands of lamps. January and February are equally pleasant and slightly less crowded, though January mornings can be foggy.

Extremely. Ram Navami in March or April draws very large crowds to Ayodhya specifically, and darshan queues lengthen considerably. It is a remarkable time to be there if the atmosphere is what you want; if you want an unhurried temple visit, choose November or February instead.

Tours run year-round, but May and June regularly exceed 40°C and queueing in that heat is genuinely hard on elderly pilgrims. If summer is your only window, plan darshan for early morning and the evening aarti, and keep the middle of the day free.
