Triund Trek 1N/2D

The Triund Trek is Himachal Pradesh's most beloved introductory trek — a 7.5 km trail from the colourful streets of McLeod Ganj (home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile) to a sublime ridgeline at 2,875 metres with an unobstructed view of the Dhauladhar range's sheer snow wall. It is easy enough for first-time trekkers and families, yet the summit panorama — with the Kangra valley stretching into the haze far below and the Dhauladhars rising dramatically behind — is as good as anything on a much harder trail.

The trail climbs through dense oak and rhododendron forest from Dharamkot, opening progressively to reveal the Dhauladhar ridgeline. The final 2 km are open hillside with spectacular views in all directions. At the summit, a Forest Department rest house and small dhaba provide hot tea and maggi noodles — a welcome arrival ritual. Camp on the flat ridge, watch the sunset paint the Kangra valley, and wake to a misty Himalayan morning before descending in time for breakfast in McLeod Ganj.

Junegiri Yatra packages include trekking guide, tent, sleeping bag, and all meals on the mountain. The trek is graded Easy and suitable for children from age 10 upwards. Best season: March–June and September–November.
