Dayara Bugyal Trek 4N/5D

The Dayara Bugyal Trek is a journey to one of the most beautiful and expansive alpine meadows in Uttarakhand — a vast, rolling expanse of green (summer) or snow-white (winter) grassland at 3,408 metres, offering some of the most dramatic panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalaya. The bugyal (high-altitude meadow) stretches across approximately 28 square kilometres, making it one of the largest open meadows accessible by trek in all of India.

The trek starts from Barsu village (2,580m) near Uttarkashi, making it accessible from Dehradun in a single day's drive. The trail ascends through dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron before opening out onto the vast open meadow of Dayara. The summit viewpoint, Bakaria Top (3,700m+), provides an unobstructed 360-degree view of peaks including Bandarpunch (6,316m), Srikanth, Kala Nag, Draupadi Ka Danda, and Gangotri group of peaks.

Dayara Bugyal is a four-season destination — in summer, the meadow carpets itself in wildflowers and fresh green grass grazed by shepherds and their flocks; in autumn, the whole landscape turns golden; and in winter (December–March), it becomes a pristine snow playground, popular for snowshoeing and ski touring. The trek is rated easy-to-moderate, making it perfect for first-time high-altitude trekkers, families, and those looking for a gentle introduction to Himalayan trekking.
