Complete Uttarakhand Travel Guide
Uttarakhand — Devbhoomi, the Land of Gods — is a state of extraordinary natural variety. Within a single journey you can move from the warm sacred ghats of Haridwar through dense sal forests alive with tigers and elephants, ascend alpine meadows blanketed in snow, and emerge at a high lake that mirrors the Himalayan skyline. Junegiri Yatra's Uttarakhand tour packages are curated to showcase this diversity with comfortable pacing, reliable transport, and locally knowledgeable guides.
Our Mussoorie and Dehradun package is among our most popular family choices. The Queen of Hills retains a colonial-era charm with its Mall Road promenade, Camel's Back Road morning walks, and viewpoints overlooking the Doon Valley and the Shivalik ranges. Kempty Falls, 15 km from Mussoorie, offers a natural tiered waterfall perfect for a refreshing dip. Dehradun's highlights include the Indian Military Academy, Mindrolling Monastery, and the lively Paltan Bazaar.
Wildlife enthusiasts gravitate toward our Nainital and Jim Corbett combination. Jim Corbett National Park — India's oldest and arguably most celebrated tiger reserve — offers both jeep and elephant safaris through its Dhikala, Bijrani, and Jhirna zones. Pairing it with the lake city of Nainital, with its horse rides, ropeway, and boat rides on Naini Lake, creates a beautifully balanced itinerary for families with children of all ages.
For winter travellers, Auli stands out as Uttarakhand's premier ski resort. Sitting between 2,519m and 3,049m, it receives consistent snowfall from December through February and offers skiing lessons for all levels through GMVN's certified instructors. The Auli ropeway — one of Asia's longest at 4 km — rewards riders with panoramic views of Nanda Devi, India's second-highest peak. Our Auli Snow Trip includes all ropeway charges, ski equipment rental, and slope instruction.

Your Complete Guide to Uttarakhand Tours from Haridwar
Uttarakhand borders China and Nepal to the north and east, and its terrain climbs from the subtropical Terai belt — home to Jim Corbett's tigers and elephants — all the way to glaciers feeding the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. The state is divided into two distinct cultural and geographic regions: Garhwal in the west, home to the Char Dham shrines and Haridwar, and Kumaon in the east, home to Nainital, Corbett, and the Binsar wildlife sanctuary.
Transport Within Uttarakhand
From Haridwar, our private vehicles handle all inter-city transfers. Shared state-run buses (Uttarakhand Roadways) connect major towns and are an economical alternative for budget travellers. Mountain roads can be narrow and winding — travel times listed in itineraries account for these conditions. During peak summer and winter seasons, booking transfers in advance is essential.
Altitude and Weather Considerations
Mussoorie (2,005m) and Nainital (2,084m) are temperate year-round but require light woolens from October through March. Auli (2,519m–3,049m) requires heavy winter gear December through February. All our packages include a packing list matched to your specific itinerary and season.
Wildlife Etiquette at Jim Corbett
Mobile phones must be on silent inside all safari zones. Flash photography is prohibited. Safaris depart at strict times — 06:00 and 14:30 — and late arrival forfeits your booking without refund. Our guides follow Forest Department codes strictly, ensuring both your safety and the park's conservation standards.
Local Cuisine to Try
Uttarakhand's Garhwali and Kumaoni cuisines are hearty and distinct from north Indian mainstream food. Look out for Aloo Ke Gutke (spiced potatoes), Kafuli (greens and lentil curry), Bal Mithai (chocolate-like fudge from Nainital), and Singori (coconut milk sweet wrapped in maalu leaf). Our guides happily recommend local dhabas and restaurants at each stop.
Frequently Asked Questions
March through June is the most popular season — weather is pleasant across the hills and all attractions are accessible. October and November offer clear post-monsoon skies and excellent visibility of Himalayan peaks. December through February is ideal for snow-based activities at Auli but some high passes may close. July–August is monsoon season; some packages may be limited.
Yes. Mussoorie & Dehradun, Nainital & Jim Corbett, and Kanatal & Tehri Lake are all highly suitable for families with children aged 5 and above. We use comfortable SUVs or tempo travellers for all ground transport and can arrange adjoining rooms or family suites at all partner hotels. Child pricing applies to kids under 5 years.
Auli receives reliable snowfall from December to February and is our top recommendation for snow. Chopta and Kedarnath valley areas see snow from November to March. Mussoorie and Kanatal occasionally get light snow in January. Nainital receives light snowfall once or twice per season, usually in January.
Jim Corbett has one of India's highest tiger densities, and sighting rates in the Dhikala and Bijrani zones are relatively strong — particularly during morning safaris. However, wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Our packages use zone-experienced naturalist guides and CANTER safaris (open vehicles) to maximise your chances.
The Forest Department regulations for Jim Corbett require all safari participants to be above 5 years of age for zone entry. Children between 5 and 12 years are charged a child entry rate. Infants and toddlers under 5 are not permitted inside the core safari zones.
All packages include 3-star equivalent hotels or government-approved resorts unless a specific category is requested. Jim Corbett packages use licensed eco-lodges or KMVN rest houses within or adjacent to the park. Auli packages use GMVN cottages or mountain resorts. Upgrades to 4-star or boutique heritage properties are available on request.
All our Uttarakhand tours can be customised. Popular additions include extending Nainital with a Mukteshwar or Binsar day trip, combining Mussoorie with Dhanaulti, or adding a Haridwar temple tour as a day extension to any package. Tell us your interests and we will tailor the itinerary accordingly.
All packages include daily breakfast at the hotel. Dinner is included in most packages at the hotel or a local restaurant. Lunches are typically on your own to allow flexibility to explore local food at leisure. Packages can be upgraded to all-inclusive (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on request.
