Frequently Asked Questions — September
September combines the best of everything: the skeletons are fully exposed, post-monsoon skies are crystal clear for mountain views, the bugyals are intensely green, and temperatures are ideal for trekking.
Over 200 ancient human skeletons discovered at Roopkund (5,029m) date to around the 9th century AD. DNA analysis suggests they were a pilgrimage group who died in a sudden catastrophic hailstorm.
Roopkund is graded difficult. Prepare with 3–4 weeks of cardio training and at least 2–3 previous Himalayan treks above 3,500m. Junegiri Yatra guides provide acclimatisation stops and safety protocols.
