November is the best month for first snow on this trek. You get crisp white meadows, cold clear skies, and almost no crowds. The temple is closed but the trek itself is stunning.
Light to moderate snow (1–3 feet) can be expected on the Chandrashila trail (4,130m) in November. Below Tungnath (3,680m) the trail has patchy snow. Microspikes ensure safe ascent.
Tungnath closes after Diwali in late October. In November the idol is transferred to Markandya temple in Ukhimath. While the main temple is closed, trekking to the site is permitted.
