Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Kanamo is classified as a trekking peak — no prior technical mountaineering certification is required. However, you must have prior high-altitude trekking experience above 5,000m, be comfortable using crampons and ice axe (taught on Day 2 at base camp), and have strong cardiovascular fitness.
Spiti Valley lies in the Himalayan rain shadow — the Greater Himalaya blocks monsoon clouds from the Bay of Bengal, leaving Spiti dry and sunny from July to September while the rest of Himachal Pradesh is soaked. This makes July and August the ideal months for high-altitude activity in Spiti.
Day 1 at Kaza (3,800m). Day 2 acclimatisation hike to Key Monastery (4,166m). Day 3 trek to Kibber base camp (4,600m). This 3-day acclimatisation protocol significantly reduces altitude sickness risk. All participants are monitored with pulse oximeters throughout.
