Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Lathmar Holi in Barsana (where women beat men with lathis/sticks) takes place approximately 1–2 weeks before the main Holi date. In 2026, Holi falls on March 20, meaning Barsana Holi will be around March 10–12 and Nandgaon Holi around March 11–13. Exact dates are fixed by the Braj panchayat — check announcements in January.

Vrindavan has over 5,000 temples — from grand complexes like Banke Bihari, ISKCON, Prem Mandir, and Radha Raman to small ancient shrines. A full exploration takes 2–3 days minimum. The temple circuit along the Yamuna ghats (Kesi Ghat, Imli Tala) is particularly atmospheric at dawn.

Janmashtami (Lord Krishna's birthday, midnight celebration) at Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura is spectacular but brings 2–5 lakh visitors in a single day. Crowd management is intense. If visiting, book accommodation 3–4 months ahead, stay inside the temple complex area, and avoid driving — use local autorickshaws or walk.
